More Than a Boat Trip: Helping Children Discover the Sea in Ibiza...and themselves!

More Than a Boat Trip: Helping Children Discover the Sea in Ibiza...and themselves!

Why Meet the Sea offers a very different experience from most boat trips.

“Meet the Sea Looks Great… But It’s Expensive.”

A fair comment and an honest answer. Every now and then we read comments online saying something like:

“Meet the Sea looks great and has good reviews but quite expensive.”It’s a fair observation.

In Ibiza you will find many boat trips, particularly around San Antonio harbour. Some offer swimming stops, some go to nearby beaches, and others are party boats. Many of them are cheaper than our experience.

So the real question is not whether Meet the Sea costs more. The real question is what you are paying for when you cosider our Family Boat trip.

Because what we offer is not simply a boat trip. It is an investment in your child’s relationship with the sea.

The Fear Many Children Arrive With

Something surprising happens on our boat almost every day. Many children arrive afraid of the sea.

In the digital era, children are constantly exposed to dramatic videos online: sharks, jellyfish, deep ocean creatures, dangerous waves. These images can make the ocean seem mysterious and frightening.

At the same time, most children learn to swim in swimming pools.

  • Pools are controlled environments.
  • They are shallow.
  • They have clear edges.
  • Parents are always nearby.

And from a biodiversity perspective, they are almost completely empty. The sea is very different. It is deeper. It moves.
It has plants, fish, and unknown spaces.

For a child, stepping into the open sea can feel like entering another world.

 What Happens Next Is Extraordinary

With the support of our guides, something remarkable begins to happen. Children slowly start to overcome their fears.

They swim longer distances than they thought possible. They realise seaweed and marine plants are not something to fear.
They learn to move comfortably above underwater landscapes.

Little by little, curiosity replaces fear.

Soon they are pointing excitedly at fish, searching rocks for starfish, and exploring underwater canyons.

By the end of the experience, many children are feeding fish surrounded by marine life without a care in the world.

That moment, when fear turns into confidence, is one of the most powerful transformations we witness.

 Learning to See the Sea

Our guides explain the ecosystem around them while they explore.

Guests regularly encounter and learn about ten or more different marine species, including wrasse, starfish, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, octopus and many others.

Instead of simply swimming, families begin to understand the living world beneath them. Where else does a boat trip include a guided marine experience like this?

Where else do children learn about biodiversity while swimming in a natural marine reserve?

 Small Groups. Real Exploration.

Another difference is how we structure our trips.

We guide snorkeling tours with a maximum of 12 people per group inside the nature reserve.

This allows our guides to offer personal attention, safety support, and real interaction with the environment.

Many boat trips simply drop passengers in the water. Our guides lead the exploration.

They point out species, explain habitats, and ensure that every guest feels confident and safe.

Even Lunch Becomes Part of the Experience

The experience continues on board.During the trip we prepare a fresh paella cooked on the boat, using strictly local ingredients.

This is not just a meal. It is another way of connecting guests with the culture of Ibiza and the Mediterranean.

Why Our Reviews Are So Detailed

Something else often surprises us. Many of our guests do not simply leave a star rating. They write long and detailed reviews describing their experience.

  • They talk about the moment their child overcame their fear of deep water.
  • They describe the excitement of spotting marine life.
  • They remember the guides who helped them feel safe in the sea.

When people describe an experience in detail, it usually means something meaningful happened.

 So… Are We Expensive?

It depends how you look at it. If you compare Meet the Sea to a simple boat ride or a short swimming trip, then yes: there are cheaper options.

But if you see it as an educational experience, a personal challenge, and a chance for your children to connect with nature in a profound way, the comparison becomes very different.

What we offer is not simply recreational. It is experiential, educational, and often transformational.

And that transformation is the result of years of work, training, and passion from a team dedicated to sharing the sea with families.

In the End, It Comes Down to One Thing

How much do we value our children’s relationship with nature?

For us, helping children understand and love the sea is one of the most important things we can do.

Because children who connect with the ocean today are far more likely to protect it tomorrow.

And that, for us, is the real purpose behind Meet the Sea.
