Meet the Sea: An ocean classroom in Ibiza

Meet the Sea: An ocean classroom in Ibiza

Meet the Sea as an ocean classroom in Ibiza in 2026

The island of Ibiza provides a unique background for Meet the Sea to act as an ocean classroom. We organise day boat trips and group sea trips for families, students and leaders. In these Ibiza sea experiences our goal is to priroritise marine biodiversity and how the sea can improve our wellbeing.

Let's have a look at the content of each of the sea experiences we offer and how they impact our audience:  whether they visit Meet the Sea as a family, a group of students from international secondary schools or a corporate retreat for leaders, all of them have one element in common, the sea as a classroom.

Family Boat trip: How families discover the sea together

Our Family Boat trip was born in 2020, and since then more than 11,000 passengers have visited a trip that is a celebration of sea and family. The object of the trip is to provide an opportunity for families to discover together the impact the sea can have in their lives.

Our guided snorkelling tour, designed by a marine biologist, is an introduction to marine life for all ages where particpants may see in complete freedom the species that inhabit the Nature Reserve of Conillera Island: Posidonia oceanica, octopus, starfish, painted comber, sea cucumber, sea breams, salemas, sponges, and salemas are seen during the tour led by our expert guide. The main impact on children is to see the vibrant marine life, to understand the delicate environment of a Nature Reserve and to participate in the collection of unwanted objects in the sea bed.

There is another fundamental aspect of the family boat trip in both, children and adults. In fact, for all ages. Snorkelling during our tour is a challenge that develops our self confidence as we cover a considerable distance and learn to feel comfortable in deep waters. Our double aspect safety measures (life vest and lifeline) makes beginner snorkellers feel at ease and experience personal growth by overcoming the challenge.

The Sea therapy section of our website talks about the positive impact experienced by children and witnessed by parents during the boat trip: for instance, children scared of the sea improving their self confidence by successfully transitiong from swimming pool to open waters. Or, children that were nervous prior to the trip were seen by their parents feeding fish in deep waters without any concerns! In other boat trips over the years we have seen children with ADHD experience relaxation and a sense of achievement after successfully completing the guided tour.

Sunset Boat trip: A video and podcast with Ibiza personalities who love the sea

Our Sunset boat trip made its debut in 2024 and it comes back in 2026 with six monthly outings between May and October. In each outing, one featured guest will be interviewed by Jo Youle, leader of the Reset rebel productions and host of the first three editions of TEDX Ibiza. The purpose of the Meet the Sea Sunset is to reveal the impact of the sea in the lives of each of our guests.

Our guests will come from different backgrounds: a popular DJ, a local painter or a successful business leader and others will be announced prior to May 2026. Their success, popularity and message about their love of the sea will hopefully encourage others to discover the sea.

Sea Trip for schools: Including the sea in today's education

Our first Sea trip for shool students took place in May 2025 with the vist to Ibiza of King Edward VI High School for Girls. The purpose of the trip was to develop the students affinity for the sea through activities designed along the themes of education, sports and entertainment at sea.

During five days, forty students and five teachers participated in sea activities designed by Meet the Sea: an intro to marine biology through snorkelling, kayaking the north of Ibiza and handling an underwater drone were some of the eight activities that made students strengthen their bonds with the sea.

We hope to continue to inspire international schools to visit Ibiza and encourage students to develop their comfort at sea. This is the key to a future where oceans play a more prominent role in education as a basis to safeguard our oceans.

Corporate Sea trips: A sea retreat for leaders

New in 2026 is our Sea trip for corporates. We are as we write developping a sea retreat for leaders that will enhance their performance, stimulate group cohesion and bring an improved mindset at a personal and professional level.
